About Us

Cadence Health and Wellness Inc.

Cadence Health and Wellness Inc. has taken a new and innovative approach to healing. Our therapists have been handpicked and vetted by veterans and first responders, along with the help of Dr. Dee Rajska in order to insure that all our clients receive the utmost respect, care, and sensitivity that is deserved at each and every visit. Our admin team is also comprised of military family members who have completed and are certified in safeTALK, ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), and the Mental Health First Aid Veteran Community Program.

The cornerstone of our healing model is hands down our peer support programs. We will host countless meetings, with a twist! We at Cadence believe in stepping outside the box, as that is where true healing begins. We will be there every step of the way...getting you back in step! At Cadence Health and Wellness Inc., we will help ease your burdens by offering our assistance with all paperwork pertaining to Veterans Affairs, Blue Cross, insurance, etc. We are more than willing to accommodate in order for you to focus strictly on your path to healing.

We recognize that oftentimes family members are forgotten and/or left in the dark while their loved one is seeking help with their own healing journey. We also recognize that oftentimes the family members may develop second hand trauma due to the circumstances that surround them. We believe that a strong family bond is crucial on the path to healing. It is our mission to serve families as a whole in order to ensure they are all growing together. Along with our peer support nights, we will also be hosting family fun nights. This will not only give you a chance to have a fun night out with your family, but it will also give you a chance to meet other military, first responders and their families.

At Cadence, we realize that there may be times when you just cannot find it in you to leave the comfort of your home. This is why we will be offering telemedicine to accommodate those times. We know just how important each appointment is for you on your healing journey, and we want you to be as comfortable as possible along the way.

We are now offering our services across Ontario and Newfoundland.

Providing you the best therapists for the best care

Dr. Danuta (Dee) Rajska
C. Psych

Dr. Dee is a clinical and rehabilitation psychologist whose focus of her clinical practice is on assessment and treatment of complex trauma.

Dr. Dee works with veterans, serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, law enforcement professionals, and first responders. She believes that those who have put their lives on the line to serve their country or community deserve to be treated with the utmost compassion, dignity, respect, and gratitude. To Dr. Dee, serving those who have served includes striving to continually educate herself to provide the very best possible care to her patients.

Dr. Dee also works with survivors of childhood abuse, physical and sexual assaults, serious motor vehicle accidents, as well as workplace injuries and assaults.

In addition to  clinical work, Dr. Dee also writes 'Coming Back Home', a blog about PTSD for veterans, currently serving members of the military and their families. The goal of the blog is to provide easy-to-understand information about the biology behind PTSD, as well as to provide support to those with service-related PTSD and their families.

Amy Kennel
 MSW / RSW

Amy Kennel graduated with a masters degree specializing in counselling and psychotherapy from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. She is a registered social worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, and a member of both the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and the Ontario Association of Consultants, Counselors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists.

"PTSD doesn’t look the same for every person. Sometimes it looks like an inability to control our anger and other times it looks like feeling nothing at all, and oftentimes cycling between both. Coming to Cadence is an opportunity to start on the road to recovery. PTSD programs used to feel hopeless and stuck in a cycle that seems impossible to break free from, where our bodies and minds don’t make sense to us. Coming to therapy is the first step toward reclaiming a sense of self, and I want to work alongside you toward that goal".

Aaron Laye
MSW / RSW

Aaron Laye is a registered social worker and psychotherapist who works with military veterans, motor vehicle accident survivors, and general mental health. He graduated with a Master of Social Work, specializing in clinical counselling from the University of British Columbia and holds a certificate in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and resiliency techniques. He is a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and with the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

Aaron supports clients with a range of issues, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, anger management, addiction, brain injury, and chronic pain. Using evidence-based approaches, Aaron works to empower his clients to gain more control over their lives and to reclaim their sense of self.

“Trauma can alter mind-body functioning, which can negatively affect many areas of life. My goal is to help my clients to understand the mind-body connection and to work together to retrain that connection to respond more adaptively. Each person's experience with trauma is unique. If you or someone you love is suffering from PTSD, it is important to understand that you are not alone. PTSD is very treatable, which means that improvement is likely with good care. Walking through the door at Cadence is a big step in the direction toward improvement. I look forward to working with you.”

Our Founders

Chris Dupee and his wife Angel are all too familiar with the struggles of mental health within the military community. Chris served 10 years within the Canadian Armed Forces as a Infantryman, Paratrooper and Lav Gunner; with a tour of duty to Afghanistan.

In 2011, Chris founded Military Minds Inc., the first ever social media platform of its kind geared towards military members and veterans struggling with PTSD/OSI/TBI, and whose purpose was to break the stigma surrounding mental health within the military community. Military Minds became a world-wide phenomenon with representatives in several countries around the world, offering guidance and peer support to those in need.

Angel then founded Military Minds Spouses, which was created to be a safe space for spouses and family members to freely engage and find support within each other, while also gaining information on helpful resources. Angel then took it upon herself to continue her education in order to be better equipped in helping those in the military community, Angel graduated in 2015 with honours in social services.

It is now Chris and Angel's mission to take all of their combined prior experiences, and collectively implement them within Cadence Health and Wellness Inc. Not only for military members/veterans and their families, but also for first responders.
